The 2017 Maserati Quattroporte Is Even More Beautiful than Before

Meticulously made over, the marque’s flagship model now comes in two new trim packages…

As with any supermodel receiving a makeover, the 2017 Maserati Quattroporte did not seem to need any enhancements to its beauty and yet the results are stunning. Both the exterior and interior have been refined for further aesthetic appeal and functionality—a restyling showcased in the two new GranLusso and GranSport trim packages.

On the outside, the car’s aerodynamics have been bolstered by 10 percent with the combination of an adjustable air shutter (inset between the radiator and air vents in the front grille), the air conveyor, and redesigned front and rear bumpers (presented in matte black). Adding to a more aggressive appearance is the pointed front grille featuring new vertical chrome embellishments. Other exterior touches include matte black side skirts and reimagined mirrors.

More than skin deep, substantive changes have also been made in the cabin, such as the Air Quality Sensor (preventing pollutants from entering inside); a central dashboard fit with a high-resolution 8.4-inch touchscreen display; and a refreshed lower console with a rotary knob for various function control. As optional additions, the Surround View Camera can pair with the Advanced Driver Assistance Systems program to provide adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go traffic adjustment, lane departure warning, forward collision warning, and advanced braking assistance. And for comprehensive connectivity, the vehicle’s new infotainment system integrates with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone platforms.

Focused on luxury, the GranLusso trim dresses the cabin in the marque’s Ermenegildo Zegna Edition detailing that is highlighted by a patented silk fabric treatment on the seats, doors, headliner, and sun visors. The dashboard is decked out in open-pore Radica wood and the steering wheel wears leather. Comfort is cared for by the heated rear seat, four-zone air-conditioning, and electric rear sunblind. On the exterior, the front of the car shows off a lower fascia design (with a floating bridge motif) while a sculpted retroreflector and a body-colored spoiler refines the rear. And the stance is made striking with 20-inch Mercurio rims accented by black brake calipers.

For competition-inspired accoutrements, the GranSport trim delivers more contoured front and rear seats, a sport steering wheel (covered in carbon fiber or leather) with aluminum gearbox paddles, and stainless-steel sport pedals. Emphasizing power and performance, the vehicle’s visage features a dominant front with improved center and side air intakes and a lower fascia integrated with the grille. At the back, the exhausts are brought to prominence by the center fuselage and two side pockets, while the spoiler (in black piano finish) fights drag with distinction. The athletic stance stands out even further with 21-inch Titano rims (with the marque’s trident logo in blue on the hub caps) complemented by red brake calipers. For a more race-ready facade, the Exterior Carbon Pack option offers carbon fiber for the mirrors, door handles, b-pillar cover, and front-bumper profile.

The choice of either trim package comes standard with the Quattroporte GTS. The top-tier edition is equipped with a 530 hp, 3.8-liter twin-turbo V-8 that allows acceleration from zero to 62 mph in 4.7 seconds and a top speed of 195 mph. For the Quattroporte S (rear-wheel drive), S Q4 (all-wheel drive), and diesel editions (each with V-6 engines), the trim packages are available as upgrades. Top speed for the V-6 model has been bumped up to 178 mph and the diesel edition maintains 157 mph.

Since its introduction, over 24,000 Quattroporte examples have been sold in a total of 72 countries. The 2017 model will be on the market this month. (maserati.com)
